It's been 20 years since the purpose-built C1 was made from plastic. It's such a rare event that we really wanted to make sure we got it right, so we brought some of the greats into the design process, including Olympian and 12-time World Champion Jon Lugbill, two-time Olympian Larry Norman, Canadian C1 champion and designer Ian Thomson, and World C1 freestyle silver medalist Marc Godbout, among others.
With such a pool of talent, including Corran's own experience as a C1 driver and designer, we were confident we could create something truly magical.
"This boat is really fast for its length," Jon said during testing. "It's easy to paddle down the steep stuff, but it still feels like slalom performance."
Actually, that was the goal. A modern take on slalom-type performance mixed with the fun and ease of a playful halfpipe.
"As a freestyle paddler I pushed hard to make it carve and play," said Ian Thomson eagerly. "And that's exactly what I got!"
And yes, he is playful. In fact, it's hard to believe that Fanatix is a hardcore riverrunner, given how amazingly fun it is to just paddle on any water.
Larry Norman's design influence was very clear from the start. "The C1 turns differently than the K1, because you lift the bow differently than the kayak. That's the limitation of virtually all C1 "conversions." If you want the boat to ride like a C1, you need to design it like a C1."
The Fanatix is available in two designs, with our C1 paddling approved equipment. Strong for the warriors and lighter for the less rough paddlers.
